Celebrating this Rotary Year's theme, Magic of Rotary, the Rotary Club of West Cagayan de Oro (RC West CDO), led by President Dures Fe Tagayuna, conducted the 8th edition of "Dakilang Ina, Ikaw Na" project to the mothers and children of Barangay Quezon, Gitagum, Misamis Oriental last August 26, 2024.
This project aims to recognize the various roles of mothers in the family and to help them develop skills and talents to cope up with the challenges they encounter day to day. It also responds to one of the areas of focus of the Rotary International, maternal and child care.
For this year's implementation, the beneficiaries include 151 mothers and 149 children. The activity include: a talk on Mental Health by Rotarian Julie Ang, an international resource person on the subject, a magical show for the young and not-so-young and games for the mothers.
With the bags of give aways, consisting of 2 kilos of rice and assorted groceries, nobody among the beneficiaries went home empty-handed. All children present were given a pair of slippers each Funds for this activity came from the RC West CDO, generous Rotarians and the David Tyler Trust, a foreign based donor. The activity was concluded with the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between RC West CDO and officials of Barangay Quezon. This MOA contains the commitment of RC West CDO to continue to support Barangay Quezon in its projects particularly those related to the seven areas of focus of the Rotary International.
This year's edition of Dakilang Ina, Ikaw Na was chaired by Rotarian Glorecita Tan under the supervision of Past Assistant Governor Armando Tarayao, Director, Service Projects-B (Vocational and Youth Service). More than twenty members of the Club participated in this activity. It was also graced by the presence of some guests: Assistant Governor Lilit Layagon, Lady Maricel Vegafria, Rotary Ann Jing Tarayao, Excy Eleccion, media representatives and barangay officials of Barangay Quezon, led by Barangay Captain Haisan Dunque.
